  DOCTOR BAD BOY’S SECRET BABY

My patients think I have a god complex.

  They’re only half right. I don’t think I’m god. I am god.

My name is Ian Andrew Michael Church..I AM Church for the uninitiated.

And when people go to their places of worship and fall to their knees to pray for their loved ones to make it through it’s my job to make sure they do.

  And I deliver…every…single…time.

But the minute she walks in I question everything, because there must be a real god to put such an innocent, perfect young angel like her on this earth.

I took the Hippocratic Oath years ago and I don’t deviate. But now I’ve got an oath of my own…

  Make her mine.

*Doctor Bad Boy’s Secret Baby is an insta-everything standalone romance with an HEA, no cheating, and no cliffhanger.

  CHAPTER 1

  Doctor Church

I knife through the morning rush hour traffic in New York City on my motorcycle with the precision only I could.

There’s no one like me. Not on the back of a high-speed motorbike and definitely not in the ER.

That’s exactly why they called me.

The daughter of one of America’s highest ranking politicians was stabbed early this morning coming home from a night out with her friends and it’s up to me to save her life.

I hate scumbags and I never let them win. And nobody dies on my watch.

Not before. Not now. Not ever.

I pull my bike right into the emergency freight elevator I’ve prepared for situations just like these and slip out of my riding jacket and street clothes as the elevator shoots up to the third floor operating room like a rocket.

The doors open right to the prep room where three nurses immediately surround me and begin readying me for the procedure.

“The other surgeon couldn’t make it, Doctor Church,” my main nurse, Mary, briefs me.

  “Don’t need him.”

“You received the brief, sir?” second in command, Jill, asks.

“Are you insinuating that I’m not prepared for surgery, Jill, when you know I’m the best damn surgeon in this city maybe the entire world? I’m the one that built this state-of-the-art facility with the money from the skill and knowledge of years of practice and preparation?”

“I’m sorry, sir. Just wanted to make sure.”

And I’m completely sure Jill wants this doctor to be in all the time, as in inside her. But as wild as I am there’s on thing I don’t mess around with.

  My job.

And my job today is going to be as difficult as ever.

In order to save this young woman’s life I’m going to have to drain her blood, pump
her veins with a saline solution and then place her in what’s known as suspended animation.

It’s exactly what it sounds like. She’s neither dead nor alive.

I’ll perform the surgery to patch up her internal organs, get her stabilized, and then refill her body with blood and resuscitate her.

In other words I’m going to flatline her in order to save her.

It’s a technique only used in extremely dire situations. Ones in which the patient has less than a ten percent chance of survival. Oh…and the patient has to have also suffered a cardiac arrest from a traumatic injury in addition to having sustained massive blood loss.

For the next twelve hours I work like a complete madman, even though I’m anything but.

I’m focused, in control, and completely in the flow.

  I live for this.

My entire life is about it. I work out like a fiend and eat only the best food to keep my mind and body ready for moments like these…moments where the patient realistically has no chance of survival, but when they hit my operating table they always do.

My back muscles are firing after bending over for twelve straight hours. My brain is fried. I’m dehydrated and starting to hallucinate from not having had a single glass of water all day, let alone a bite to eat.

“Doctor!” her father says to me.

“Please, doctor. Give us some news,” her mother says.

Frankly, I’m surprised they’re even asking.

“She’s resting comfortably,” I say. “She’ll be out of here by middle of next week. Back to normal in a few months.”

“Oh my god! It’s a miracle,” her mother says.

Wake up, lady. It’s not a miracle. It’s the man whose initials spell out I AM Church.

Ian Andrew Michael Mother Fuckin' Church.

And they just had a front row seat while I walked on water.

  CHAPTER 2

  Matilda

“What do you mean I can’t go unless I have a yellow fever shot?” I say into my cell phone.

I listen while the program administrator explains that in order to participate in the volunteer project I’ve been planning for months, that I have to have a yellow fever vaccination no later than four weeks before my flight.

And today is exactly four weeks.

I’ve been working in New York as a nanny and just dropped by the small New York regional office today to make my final payment, secure my plane tickets, and basically cross the final T’s and dot the final I’s. I signed up for this program months ago when I was abroad and have been looking forward to doing what I can to make my small and humble contribution towards making the world a better place. I think volunteering is a great first step in that direction.

Except apparently I missed one gigantic requirement and there’s no workaround.

The airline won’t let me fly and even if I somehow managed a way around that the immigration officials wouldn’t permit me to enter the country once I land.

And it’s already past five o’clock so most every doctor with an office that performs vaccinations will be gone for the day.

“There’s no one you know of that has a relationship with the program who can administer the shot?” I say.

  I wait for the reply.

“But you’re one of the largest non-profit global programs in the world. And I’m in New York City! There’s got to be someone.”

I hear a lot of mumbling that’s nothing more than excuses.

“Right. Um huh. Okay. Right, thanks for your time,” I say hanging up the phone. If this person isn’t going to help me then I need to pull up my bootstraps and help myself.

I’m going abroad and I’m helping people and I’ve got a few hours to figure out how to do it and I’m not going to stop until I do.

  CHAPTER 3

  Doctor Church

I put my feet up on my desk and lean back in my oversized plush oxblood leather chair fit for a king, not that I would ever consider myself a mere mortal but if I was I guess king would be my title.

I enter my login credentials and the newest listings in Belize pop up. You need a minimum net worth of twenty-five million just to get access to the website. And by website I mean this way of life.

I click on the sort by map function and look for places next to the eco resort that Di Caprio is opening. I can’t wait to see the look on his face when I move in next door. Last time I bumped into him in St. Tropez all the girls on his boat quickly found their way onto my boat. We go way back, but I know I got him good. We’re both alpha males after all. We thrive on competition and winning.

I click the buy button knowing the funds will be transferred, the title will be checked, and everything will be finalized in just a few working days. He’s going to be so mad, and I’m going to get such a kick out of it.

The best part is the tattoos. They scare away most people, but certainly not the ladies. They think I’m just another bad boy, and while they’re right about the bad part, they quickly find out my bank account is fit for a real man. A risk taker, cash maker, and a heartbreaker. Maybe I’ll get that tattooed next.

I hear the buzzer on my phone beep followed by some mumbled words intermixed with static.

No way am I tolerating this. The phone is cutting out? I’m going to call the company’s CEO and tell him to come over here and fix it personally. It’s only fair considering I sewed him up last year after the clumsy bastard tripped and fell on top of his golf club nearly impaling himself. Now I know why his company is falling apart.

  “Jaaaaane. I can’t heeeeear you.”

She tries again but all I can make out is one word. “Togos?”

She knows I don’t eat that garbage. I only eat Norwegian salmon sashimi and Japanese sweet potatoes for dinner. It powers the muscles, brain, and skin. What in the world is she talking about?

Suddenly there’s a knock on my door.

  “Yes,” I say.

Jane begins speaking through the door but I can’t hear her.

  “Get in here,” I say.

“Dr. Church, I’m sorry to bother you sir, especially after the day you just put in, but there are two items of business I was hoping to speak to you about before I go for the day.

I move my hand toward my chest before sweeping it away as I roll my hand over with the palm up as if to say she can proceed.

“Mrs. Washington left a gift, sir.”

“She also left cash. That’s all that matters.”

  “Her gift is also cash.”

“How much?” I may have just paid for that entire Belizean estate today.

“Based on the size and weight of the briefcase I’d say it’s in line with the gift you received from Mr. Ortega.”

“Another million. Not a bad bonus.”

  “Not bad at all, sir.”

“Why were you paging me about Togos? You know I don’t eat fast food.”

  “Togo, sir.”

“Togo? Isn't that the European pronunciation of to go?”

“Not that I’m aware of, sir. It’s a small country in Africa.”

“Why in the hell would I want to go there?”

“I don’t think you would, but there’s a young lady in the lobby who does.”

“A young lady in the lobby? I thought I told you to cancel all the appointments when I was in the operating room.”

Jane does what she always does when she thinks she might be in trouble. She arches her back a little bit more and those big firm double D’s of hers stand right up. They’re so firm and hard I swear she could serve cocktails off them. And they’re big enough she could probably put chips and dip up there on that rack of hers too.

She’s been trying to get me to take her home since the day she arrived for an interview.

I swear that girl must have learned how to sew since she started working here because they don’t make skirts that tight and that short at any store in the mall. I don’t know how she doesn’t split the seam when she bends over to file documents, but I’
m glad she doesn’t although it’s a different story for our patients.

I’m not about to engage any of her attempts at a romantic rendezvous, but I’m also not about to ask her to change her behavior. I’m all for the fairer sex doing whatever the hell they want, not to mention the rich and powerful men that come into the office can’t stop staring. She brings in the equivalent of her yearly salary in the first week of the year with all the business she brings in. And I pay her very generously.

“She was at the door when I went to lock it for the day. She seemed desperate and didn’t want to take no for an answer.”

“You know how much I hate desperation, Jane.”

“I know, sir but she told me about her circumstances and I think helping her could be good for your public image.’
